Breakfast was huge. Everything you want to eat for breakfast you could find. Cereal, fruit, yogurt to fancy pancakes with bananas in the center to bacon and eggs and potatoes and you name it! We’re amazed at the amount of food. Right after breakfast we had a little lesson on why the French seem rude. It’s all about their language. French was the major language of the world. Anyone who was anyone used to speak French - every court of Europe spoke French. Do you know there is a French word for “computer”? Every other language uses “computer”. Not the French. The French word for “computer” is ordinareur, “mouse” is souris and “e-mail” is courriel. The French actually have an agency that comes up with French words for everything, even when the rest of the world uses the English word!
The north wind (the “Mistral”) that began while we were in Aix is still whipping through the Rhone River Valley and the south of France. The Mistral is cold and uncomfortable but the wine growers are very happy to have the wind right now. This has been a wet growing season for the grapes and the Mistral should help dry the vines and result in a very good year for wine.
We did our guided walking tour of windy Arles and have pictures of Roman ruins, old Arles and the Rhone River Valley to share.
Tonight at 6:00 p.m. we sail for Avignon.

After reading the breakfast comments, I remembered Dick at dawn at the Sambo's in New Mexico while driving to CMC for Easter from D. C. with Paul McHale - and $$ for only either food or rest/showering and guess which was chosen. Dick apparently still has a great metabolism for pancakes at all times!
I've been to the amphitheater!
